Description

The STEM Explorer program offers a highly engaging introduction to key concepts in natural science and mechanics through hands-on learning with LEGO. Each week-long session is organized around themes like oceanography, animal adaptations, weather, space exploration, the water cycle, and plants. Each day, students will engage in some combination of LEGO-building, experiments, crafts, and games related to the day’s topic in order to reinforce their understanding and excitement. Students will work both independently and as a group as they expand their knowledge throughout this fun-filled week! **Please note: Weekly themes may be subject to change.

The Brain Booster add-on for full-day students is the ideal program for rising kindergarteners and first graders with active and curious minds! Each session begins with mindfulness and getting to know each other through conversation prompts and share-alouds, followed by fun math games, interactive story time, arts and crafts!

In addition to acquiring new knowledge, students will practice and strengthen the following competencies:

  • Teamwork and communication
  • Independence
  • Critical thinking
  • Logical thinking
  • Creativity

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

  • Instructors begin each day with a preview of the key concepts to be covered, but the bulk of each day is reserved for students to engage in hands-on construction and experimentation.
  • During each session, every student will build 1-2 models specifically designed to apply their new knowledge and discover how the concepts are reflected in the world around them.
  • Throughout, instructors pose open-ended questions to stimulate critical thinking and creativity, facilitate discussion, and provide support for independent and group problem-solving.For this age group, we also incorporate all-important “brain breaks”, the shaking out of “sillies”, crafts, and unstructured play.

PRE-REQUISITES: Students should have a basic understanding of mathematical concepts related to quantity, counting, space, and time, and should be able to use the restroom without assistance.

RECOMMENDED AGES: 4.6-7y+
